How can I split my rent payments with Baselane

Split Rent Payments is currently in beta and available to a limited number of tenants. This feature allows tenants to divide their rent into multiple payments — weekly, bi-weekly, or in installments — while the landlord still receives the full rent amount upfront. The option is available directly in the tenant portal and is powered by our partner, Livble, which extends a line of credit to approved tenants.

Split payments offer a more flexible way to manage your monthly rent and can also help improve your credit — all while avoiding late fees and ensuring your landlord receives the full rent on time.

Eligibility and Requirements

To use split rent payments, a one-time assessment is required, including:

• Full Name
• Date of Birth
• Social Security Number (SSN)
• Phone Number
• Email
• Connect your external bank account connected via Plaid 

Note: To use our split payment option, you must connect your external bank account to Baselane via Plaid. If Plaid does not support your bank, the split payment option will not be available at this time.

• Approval is not guaranteed and may be denied based on your credit or financial profile
• Split payments can only be made via ACH
• Can split up to 4 payments per rent invoice
• Credit and debit cards are not accepted for split rent payments
• A $30 fee is added to each rent invoice when this option is selected
• Split payments are completely optional — tenants can decide each month whether to pay in full with our standard payment options (ACH, debit, or credit card) or split their rent into installments

How to Split Rent in Baselane's Tenant Portal

Once you've been invited to pay rent through Baselane and created your tenant account, follow these steps to use the split payment option:

1. Log in to your Tenant Portal

2. Click the key icon in the left-hand menu

3. Find your current rent invoice and click “Pay”

4. On the payment screen, choose your method

   • Pay in Full

     • ACH (free for tenants whose landlords collect rent into a Baselane banking account )

     • Debit or Credit Card (3.49% processing fee)

   • Split Payments

     • Select Split my rent 

     • Choose the number of installments 

     • Select Let's go
       
       

5. Complete the one-time assessment:

• Confirm the $30.00 fee to be paid if you choose to split your rent payment each month
• Enter your phone number
• Enter your full name, email, date of birth, and SSN
• Enter your full name, email, date of birth, and SSN
• Enter who you currently live with (alone, roommates, family, partner, other)
• Agree to terms
• Link your bank accounts securely through Plaid

Note: Link all accounts from every bank, especially those where your paycheck is deposited and where you pay rent

• You have only one attempt to complete the application
• Ensure account number sharing is on for future payments through Livble
  • With the Plaid flow, please enter your number, verification code, and your bank accounts connected to Baselane will be listed
  • Select confirm to share your consumer report with Plaid
  • Livable will review and approve or deny your application for split payments within one minute, based on the information provided
  • Approval is not guaranteed and may be denied based on your credit or financial profile
    
• 6. Once approved, select continue to select your installment schedule:
  • Split into 2, 3, or 4 payments max
  • Drag to adjust the payment dates
  • Select Split my rent
    

 Review and confirm your installment plan: 

• Your landlord will receive the full payment 
• You will continue to pay your rent via installments until it is complete

Can I choose split payments every month?
Yes. You’ll have the option to split your rent or pay in full each month.

What if my bank isn’t supported by Plaid?
You won’t be able to use the split rent feature. You can still pay in full using ACH or a debit or credit card.

Will my landlord know I used split payments?
No. Your landlord only sees that the rent was paid in full, not how it was paid.

Will my rent still be reported if I use Split Payments and Rent Reporting?

Yes — both features report on-time payments, but only one will apply per invoice:

• If you pay using Split Payments, your rent is reported by Livble.

• If you pay using standard payment methods and are enrolled in Baselane Rent Reporting, your on-time rent payments are reported by Baselane.

Important: You can choose to stay enrolled in Baselane’s Rent Reporting if you plan to switch between paying in full and using split payments. However, if you cancel the Rent Reporting service, you will not be able to re-enroll in the future.

Yes — split payments will help build credit over time, as they function as a loan installment plan.
