Baselane's Lease Agreements feature lets you create state-specific lease agreements, upload existing leases, collect e-signatures, and securely store signed leases in one place.
Effective July 31, 2026, lease creation and e-signature have been sunset for all new Baselane users. New users can continue to upload and store signed lease agreements but will no longer have access to create leases or send documents for e-signature through Baselane.

Create a state-specific lease and send for e-signature ($10 per lease)
Available only to users who had access to Lease Agreements prior to July 31, 2026.
- Navigate to Rent Collection > Lease Agreements.
- Select New Lease Agreement > Draft & E-Sign.
- Select an existing property or create a new property.

Enter your lease details:
- Lease type
- Monthly rent
- Rent due date

Add your tenant(s):
- Manually enter their information, or
- Select an existing tenant.
- Select Continue.
- Select Customize & E-Sign.
- You'll then be redirected to Rocket Lawyer to complete your lease.
During the lease builder, you'll configure:
- Landlord and tenant information
- Lease terms
- Rent amount and payment policies
- Security deposit
- Guest policy
- Utilities
- Pet policy
- Renter's insurance
- Smoking policy
- Furnishings and amenities
- State-specific disclosures
- Custom lease clauses
Once complete:
- Set the lease effective date.
- Enter the landlord's legal name.
- Select the signing order.
- Add all signers.
- Sign the lease.
- Select Sign Now, Save, and send the lease for signature.
Edit a Baselane lease before it is signed:
If you've created a lease through Baselane and sent it for e-signature, you can still edit the lease before any signer has signed the document.
- Navigate to Rent Collection > Lease Agreements.
- Select the lease with the Signing in Progress status.
- Click View Lease.
- Select Other Options.
- Click Cancel Signature Request and provide a reason.
- Once canceled, select Actions > Other Options > Edit Document.
- Make the necessary changes using the Advanced Editor.
- Save your changes and resend the lease for signature.
Note: This editing option is only available for lease agreements created through Baselane. Uploaded lease documents cannot be edited. If you need to make changes to an uploaded lease, you'll need to update the document outside of Baselane, re-upload it, and send it for e-signature again.
Upload a lease and send for e-signature ($5 per lease)
Available only to users who had access to Lease Agreements prior to July 31, 2026.
Important: This option is for e-signature only. This feature does not edit or modify uploaded lease documents. Please ensure your lease is final (no corrections) before uploading.
- Navigate to Rent Collection > Lease Agreements.
- Select New Lease Agreement > Upload (E-sign optional).
- Upload your lease (PDF or DOC up to 10 MB).
- Select No when asked if the lease has already been signed.
- Select the property.
- Enter the lease terms.
- Select Save.
- Select Start Signing.
- Add your payment method.
- Choose the signing order.
- Add your signature (if applicable).
- Select Sign Now and Save.
Once all parties have signed, the lease status will update to Signing Complete and remain stored under the Lease Agreements tab.
Upload a signed lease for storage
New and existing users can upload previously signed lease agreements for record keeping.
- Navigate to Rent Collection > Lease Agreements.
- Select New Lease Agreement > Upload (E-sign optional).
- Upload the signed lease.
- Select Yes when prompted if the lease has already been signed.
- Select the property and unit.
- Enter the lease details.
- Select Save.
Your lease will be securely stored within your Baselane account, where you can access it at any time.

Where are Lease Agreements located?
Lease Agreements can be accessed under Rent Collection > Lease Agreements.
Can new users create lease agreements?
No. Effective July 31, 2026, lease creation and e-signature have been sunset for all new Baselane users. New users can continue to upload and securely store signed lease agreements.
Can I edit a lease after signatures have started?
No. Once a lease enters Signing in Progress, lease terms and signer information can no longer be edited. You must first cancel the signature request before making changes.
Can collaborators create leases?
Yes. Collaborators with access to Lease Agreements can create and manage leases.
Can multiple tenants sign the same lease?
Yes. Multiple tenants can sign the same lease.

What happened to leases created in the beta experience?
Leases created before April 8, 2025, were automatically migrated to the Lease Agreements tab. These leases are not automatically linked to Rent Collection and must be connected manually if needed. Beta leases also cannot be edited once they've entered the signing process.
