How to Import CSV Transactions into Baselane

Use this template to format your transactions for an easy and error-free import. Always make a copy!
Steps to Import a CSV File

Navigate to the Transactions tab of your Baselane workspace.
- Click on "Import" in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Skip the Plaid connection step if prompted, and proceed to select "CSV Import".

Upload your CSV file.
- Note: You can only upload one file at a time.
- You can tag imported transactions to one of your linked external bank accounts.

Map the column headers from your uploaded file to Baselane headers.
- Required fields: Date, Description, and Amount.

CSV Formatting Tips
To ensure a smooth import:
- Avoid blank fields.
- Include only one header row.
- Match required columns: Date, Description, and Amount.
- Ensure valid entries:
- Amount: Numerical values.
- Description: Plain text without special characters.

Optional Mapping:
- Categories: If mapped to the "Category" header, transactions can be assigned more detail. Unmatched categories will appear in the Notes section.

Properties: If mapped to the "Property" header, Baselane will match them automatically. Unmatched properties will appear in the Notes section.

Confirm the import by clicking "Import Transactions".
- Once completed, you'll receive a confirmation email.

1) Is this feature available on mobile?
No, CSV import is currently available only on desktop.
2) How long does it take for transactions to import?
Most imports take under 5 minutes.
3) Will special characters cause an error?
Yes, special characters may cause the import to fail. Remove any characters other than letters and numerals using Excel (Windows) or Numbers (Mac).
4) Is there a template for formatting my CSV file?
Yes! Use our CSV Import Template.
- Make a copy and save it to your device.
- Paste your transactions.
- Ensure correct formatting (see Step 5 above).
- Save the file as a CSV.
- Import into Baselane
